“The older we get, the better we were!”…
“Keeping the Old Man Out”
“If only my skills were as advanced as my age”
Founded in 2014 to compete in the World Games in Denver, we are a senior level Lacrosse organization that competes in multiple Lacrosse tournaments around the country throughout the year. Initially founded to participate in the 60+ age group, as we have matured, we now participate in the 60+ and 65+ age brackets in the following tournaments:
- Florida Lacrosse Classic
(MLK weekend in January) - Vail Shootout
(End of June, beginning of July) - Lake Placid Summer Classic
(End of July, beginning of August)
As the seasons roll along and as we continue to play, our age bracket likewise increases. So we now also participate in the 70+ games which are now forming.
(Lastly, there is a tournament in Hawaii which now has a 60+ division. While the Grateful Undead does not sponsor a team for this, we have had a dozen or so of our players join the “Kryptonite” team there. If you are interested in the Hawaii tourney, please contact Bob Williams at bobw1441@aol.com or 518-365-2824.)
Even if our bodies are older….we are young at heart. And, that’s why we keep playing…’cause we can!
We play for the friendships, for the competition, and to defy our ages…..but mostly we play for the love of the sport. We all know that today’s game may be our last…… so we’re going to make it last as long as possible.
In addition to playing these wonderful games over the course of a weekend, we also enjoy the social aspect of being able to get together a few times a year. During every tournament we schedule a “parking lot social” after a day’s games, where we can hang out and get to know our teammates a little better. We also invite family, various friends, former teammates, opposing players, etc. to get together for a little lacrosse camaraderie. We reminisce, and tell some not-so-tall tales about how good we used to be. With an occasional tall-tale sprinkled in, of course!
If you’d like to know what we’re up to on a regular basis (news, pictures, tournament participation, etc.) or join our team and keep the memories and dreams coming, please complete the form on the “Contact Us” page and we’ll be sure to keep you updated on everything Grateful Undead is doing.
Regards,
Larry Diamond (60+, 65+, and 70+ divisions)

2023 Hawaii
Although this recent tournament on Oahu was not one that the G.U. officially played in, there were quite a few of us who enjoyed the games. In fact, the majority of team “Kryptonite” were G.U. players! In addition to the G.U. guys pictured here, we also had teammates from Australia and Canada. Truly an international competition. If you are interested in the Hawaii tourney, please contact Bob Williams at bobw1441@aol.com or 518-365-2824. More info about Hawaii.
